What were your strongest initial impressions of Citigroup Global Markets Japan?
People were very enthusiastic toward their jobs despite the busy working environment.
What do you like most about the people you work with at Citigroup Global Markets Japan?
The Citigroup Global Markets Japan trading floor is like a jungle. There are various types of people with various attitudes maintaining an extraordinary balance, even while clashing with each other at times. Even thought there is conflict sometimes, when all is said and done, I think it is a projection of everyone’s passion towards their work.
How important is teamwork at Citigroup Global Markets Japan?
Both the workload and pressure are beyond the capabilities of any one person. I think teamwork is essential.
What do you count as your greatest success at Citigroup Global Markets Japan?
It is hard to single out a specific example, but on the whole it is the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes by bringing together people scattered throughout the various offices in NY, London, Hong Kong and Singapore, to complete a deal. Being involved in the process, from explaining a new product to customers, having them understand and believe in the product and buying it, to the operational aspects such as drafting the contract and payment after the trade is completed, provides a strong sense of accomplishment. Moreover, I also feel like I am able to contribute to the team by being able to use a new combination of various resources from the large Citi organization to bring about business success.
Do you feel Citigroup Global Markets Japan has been supportive in your career advancement?
It goes without saying that the various training programs are very supportive. But above all, the spirit of developing junior employees on a daily basis is a common goal that everyone strives toward, from senior staff to those who have recently joined the firm.
How has the global nature of the business affected your work?
A single trade or deal is never completed at the Tokyo office alone. Talking daily to people in offices around the globe is regular part of the job, so rather than being conscious of this as being a "global" business, I try to focus my efforts on achieving smooth communications between Tokyo and the overseas offices.
