The Finance Division supports various aspects of Citigroup Global Markets Japan’s business management activities.
Responsibilities
Each department of the Finance Division is staffed with experts holding a high degree of specialized knowledge in finance, accounting and taxation. These professionals operate in partnership with the sales and trading businesses and provide a variety of advice including capital adequacy, funding and liquidity analysis, balance sheet usage and market value analytics. They remain in constant touch with overseas offices to ensure the smooth flow of our daily business.
The Finance Division is composed of the following four groups:
- Controllers: Responsible for internal and external financial reporting and risk monitoring. In addition to the analysis and construction of daily and monthly P/L statements, this group also creates financial reports for submission to internal management and various authorities. Controllers also protect the firm's capital by ensuring a sufficient capital ratio is maintained, and administering and managing the firm's payments. By making forecasts and managing the firm's finances, Controllers enable the firm to ensure that our capital is being utilized with maximum effectiveness.
- Treasury: Responsible for the firm's cash management and funding and also builds and maintains our strong relationships with other financial institutions. The Treasury team maintains close contact with both domestic and overseas offices to ensure that the funding needs of the various lines are met in the most appropriate manner possible, and that the firm always has ample liquidity.
- Planning and Analysis: Creates our managerial and budgetary plans. The Planning and Analysis Department supports the decision-making process of business lines and top management by providing divisional income statements and analyzing our profitability and liquidity.
- Ensures our compliance with taxation laws and codes of conduct, and provides advice to our business lines on tax-related subjects. The Tax team interacts with overseas offices to provide them with specialized information on Japanese taxation issues.
